136 – It’s like riding a new bike

Suggestion and argument alone don’t change minds, but experiences do. Listen to hear how one husband finally persuaded his wife to buy herself a new and improved bike.

Welcome to the last episode of Anecdotally Speaking for 2021! We’re taking a short break over the holiday period but will leave you with one final episode!

This week, Shawn shares a story he heard from Mike Adams, our Head of Story-Powered Sales. And after discussing it as per our usual episode format, Shawn and Mark talk about stories and the festive season!

We hope you enjoy a safe and happy holiday period, and we’re looking forward to seeing what 2022 brings! Note that the Anecdote office will be closed from the 20th of December until the 10th of January.

Mike Adams’ colleague once told him that he was trying to convince his wife to upgrade her bicycle. He had a nice bike, but every time he suggested it to her, she would say, “I love my bike. It’s fine. There’s nothing wrong with it. I’m happy with it, and I’m used to it.”

One day, on a bike ride, the frame of her bike broke. As a result, she couldn’t ride it home.

So he suggested she ride his bike home and offered to get her bike back there too.

When he got home, she was grinning from ear to ear.

“Oh, I love your bike!” she said, “It was so easy to ride, so comfortable. I love the gears…”

So he said, “Well, maybe we should get you a new bike.”

And she said, “Oh, yes, I’d love a new bike!”
